In Kim Tinuviel's world, making a photograph is like making music, due to a gift of cross-sensory perception called synesthesia. Since childhood, I have been aware of ‘hearing’ color in my music and ‘seeing’ music in my images. Certain notes evoke specific colors, textures sing like harmony, and line and form float over the top as melody. As Tinuviel creates artwork, she listens for the images that play symphonies in her brain. When the music begins, she knows the art is near. First trained at The Juilliard School as a classical musician, Tinuviel performed professionally on world stages for more than 30 years. Later she became a graphic designer, photographer, painter and welder. A frequent world traveler and citizen, Tinuviel satisfies her curiosity and collects inspiration from people and cultures far and wide. She has lived on Whidbey Island since 1997, and has also lived on/in San Juan Island, Los Angeles, New York City and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
