My mosaic technique has been heavily influenced by the materials I've collected from frequent trips to salvage yards and garage sales. This was partially the result of learning to make mosaics in New Zealand, where mosaic materials were in short supply in 1999, and I was taught to make the best of the situation. Having moved to Whidbey Island in 2007, there are fewer opportunities to collect recycled materials. However, living very near Puget Sound beaches provides almost unlimited Styrofoam chunks and pebbles that can influence the direction of a future artwork. I continue to add to my "stash" of inventory of found materials whenever I can. Commissions are accepted, they are usually made in my studio and then installed on site.
